The Electrical System: The Pulse of a Hospital
You’ve heard of the Hippocratic Oath, a sworn pledge taken by physicians and other healthcare professionals that they will practice medicine ethically. Their top priority is the welfare of their patients, whose lives often depend on medical equipment, which of course needs electricity to run.
Since electricity is the vital heartbeat of hospitals, the National Fire Protection Association and National Electrical Code require emergency sources of power, which must be able to provide enough light and power for life safety if normal service is interrupted. An emergency electrical system must restore hospital operations within 10 seconds of interruption of the normal service.
While the emergency system consists of circuits necessary for life safety and critical patient care, the equipment system is dedicated to parts for patient care and basic hospital operation. Both systems (and the equipment they will support) must be considered when building a healthcare facility.
For example, one hospital Pieper worked on encompassed an array of complex electrical systems, including those found in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (NMRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and other x-ray based imaging equipment. With Pieper’s expertise, the facility was executed precisely and finished early.
Just What the Doctor Ordered
We design and install:
- Electrical Systems
- Fiber Optic and Data Cabling
- Fire Alarm Systems
- Security Systems
- Access Control Systems
- Energy Management Systems
- Building Automation Systems
- Nurse Call/Code Blue Systems
- MATV/CCTV Systems
It’s important to accommodate hospital’s specialized electrical needs, and it’s equally important to remember to maintain such electrical systems.
